Using FTP

Introduction
FTP Client is one of the most common method of transferring your files to the web server for updating and maintaining your web site. There are many shareware and freeware FTP clients on the Internet. Any FTP client that you find comfortable using would perform the task. GDEX strongly recommends WS FTP from IPSwitch which is available to download on our download area. We will be using WS FTP in the following instructions. Please refer to the documentations for your particular FTP program if you wish to use a different FTP client.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR FRONTPAGE USER:
Frontpage user should not use FTP to update and maintain your web site. Doing so might corrupt the frontpage extensions and will cause errors the next time you use frontpage to access your site. Do not remove any files from your web account with an FTP client. Use FTP only to upload files to your CGI-BIN directory. For more information on how to publish and maintain your site using fronpage, please refer to the Frontpage help page.

YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION TO ACCESS TO YOUR ACCOUNT VIA FTP:
  • An Internet Connection - You must first establish an Internet connection before connecting to our FTP server.
  • FTP Server Name - (ftp.yourdomain.com).
  • User ID - The login ID that is assigned to you.
  • Password - Your access password associated with the login ID.
Please DO NOT delete or change any of the default directory structures.
