EMAIL SPAM FILTERING
GDEX offers advanced Email
SPAM filtering that you can use to manage incoming email messages.
Every GDEX email customer
has FREE access to our Webmail service from their Web browser. Webmail
is a great way to manage your email from your Web Browser when you're away
from the home or office. You can read mail, delete mail, forward
email, and filter email with this easy to use tool. When you return
to your home or office, the email remaining in your Main Webmail
area can be downloaded to any PC email software application such as Outlook,
Netscape Communicator, or Eudora.
To access your Webmail area,
Click on Webmail from any
of the GDEX Web pages or enter webmail.gdex.net from
your browser. Signon using your full email address (for example:
woody@trusted.net) and enter your assigned password.
You can easily setup processing
rules that will remove unwanted SPAM email. You need to be careful,
however, to setup enough processing rules to keep important email messages
that may have been sent to you as a member of a distribution list or CC
or BCC list.
The first step is to understand
that 95% of all spam is NOT addressed directly to valid email account names.
This is a trick that SPAMmers use to hide their identity, and you can use
this to your advantage.
Next, you should have a list
of all other VALID friends, family, and business associates email names
that want to receive. You don't have to know every identity, but
you should know the DOMAIN names that may be sending you email. For
example, you may receive email from various accounts at UCLA.org or from
Amazon.com. Or you may be receiving email from your brother or sister
(e.g. betty2001@aol.com).
The following screen-shot
is an example of some basic rules that will filter out 95% of all unwanted
SPAM email. You should setup your own rules and re-visit and fine-tune
them to meet your specific needs.
